The scriptures and laws humans wrote,
are they above humans?
With time and climate, geography and demography,
Our laws have always changed, and will be ever-changing.
Out of countless civilizations, only a handful rise.
But every civilization that flourishes is bound to perish one day.
Oh wise Chanakya!
Forget the count of oil lamps, let’s deal with electricity.
Architect Shah Jahan,
maybe white marble isn’t the best construction material.
Oh My Churchill bonkers!
Did you know I can build a home without a bunker?
We amend, We emend.
We repair, We rephrase.
We alter, We adapt.
In this fleeting time,
the only constant is change.
Who knows,
Enormous buildings might be ghosted
For a glass of water, we might fight.
In these little swift lives, don’t we realise,
looking at the holy books and history lessons,
we cling more on to the exact words
forgetting the essence?
Now tell me,
If our scriptures tell us to
throw our women into pyre,
not educate our girls,
will we do that?
I leave it to your wisdom.
If the scriptures humans wrote should be above humans.
Or if you can challenge yourself
to reinterpret them in today’s context.
